New Parents Potty Training Tips
As a new parent you will learn a new fact of life, every child needs potty training. Most parents are not prepared for this event and can use a few potty training tips. The toilet training cycle can become frustrating for parents as not every parent knows the best way to start. Often even good starts in this process encounter a relapse with your child. Resources are limited and most people rely on advice from other parents which may or may not be the best approach.
First and foremost, you should remember that what is happening to you is not your fault. The need for potty training is an age old rite of passage. All parents experience this frustration and these frustrations are normal. So keep that in mind and do not get impatient with your child. That is easier said than done, particularly after making good progress and then experiencing a set back.
It may speed things up for you by explaining as simply as possible to your child that everyone needs to pee and poop including you. Then just explain that those things belong in the potty.
Your child may not understand that pull ups and diapers are not a substitute for using the potty. While it may seem counterintuitive, from a child's perspective pull ups may be a signal that they do not have to use the potty.
Potty training could be simplified into three items that the child must learn before the chilc can be successful.
1. The child must understand how to use the potty.
2. The child must be able to recognize their need to go to the toilet.
3. The child must learn how to hold it so they can get to the potty in a timely manner.
One of your keys to success in potty training as a parent is to maintain as much patience as possible. You will need to be consistent with your child. You may need to explain over and over to your child that they need to hold it until they get to the potty and then release it. Unfortunately it often is more difficult to attain success than that. Keep it simple and concentrate on these four items for successful toilet training.
1. Be patient
2. Be consistent
3. Use praise (never be negative)
4. Don't over rely on pull ups or diapers.
Through the right encouragement you can help your child achieve toilet training success much faster. You should also do what you can to equip yourself with the right resources and attitude too. The more confidence you demonstrate and the calmer you remain the easier your potty training will be. Successful potty training can be achieved quickly when approached positively. Good training yields good results.
